On October 28th, Edwin and I celebrated two years of marriage! My does time fly. It feels like just yesterday that we were getting married! I always like to jump at any change to celebrate because life is too short. That coupled with the fact that 2019 has had its challenges (not marriage challenges!) made me want to not let our anniversary go without marking it. However, it quickly snuck up on us and we suddenly realized that we didn’t have any plans a week out for our anniversary date.
Unbeknownst to us, my parents planned a little surprise for us and sent us to St. Michaels, Maryland for our anniversary! It was one of the most generous surprises/gifts ever! My mom remembered that a hotel there was on my travel bucket list… aren’t moms brilliant!? My sister, Sarah, is a travel advisor so she booked us and just like that, we were going! Since the trip was booked by a travel advisor, we were able to get a room upgrade and a hotel credit! Everything about it was an incredible treat! Keep reading for more on where we stayed…!
Where We Celebrated Our Second Wedding Anniversary
From Instagram, you probably know that we stayed at the Inn at Perry Cabin for our anniversary getaway! I discovered the hotel a few years ago on Instagram and had it on my radar ever since. My parents went to college in DC so my mom had actually been to the Inn at Perry Cabin about 15 years ago after a trip back to Georgetown. She loved it and was so excited for us to experience it. The hotel was perfect for an anniversary trip! It has everything you could ever want on property so it is incredibly relaxing + entertaining.
During our trip, we played tennis one morning, enjoyed the adirondack chairs out by the water, played gin rummy each night by the outdoor fire pits, and went for a sail on one of their gorgeous boats (they have multiple you can choose from)! There’s also a spa, pool, and multiple dining options, which we loved! The Inn at Perry Cabin is a Relais and Chateaux hotel so the food and service was wonderful. All in all, we loved it and would recommend it to anyone! P.S. our stay wasn’t a gifted or sponsored stay but even if it was I’d give it the same rave review.
P.S. watch the Movie Wedding Crashers for a taste of the hotel! Part of it was filmed on property!
The Inn at Perry Cabin is nestled in the charming town of St. Michael’s, Maryland.
It is a super short walk or bike ride (the Inn has bikes for guests!) from town so it couldn’t be more conveniently located! The Inn and the town both have a beautiful, quintessential old Chesapeake feel to them. I had been to Annapolis before with my family but otherwise have spent no time in the Chesapeake area so I was over the moon about experiencing this part of the country! It was Edwin’s first time to the area. The weather was spectacular with fall in the air. I received so many DMs along the lines of “I would have never thought to go there during fall!” but let me tell you, it was great! The very end of October and, I imagine the beginning of November, are picture perfect fall on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
In the town of St. Michaels, we flipped for the restaurant Limoncello! It’s the cutest Italian bistro with pasta that you’ll remember for days after eating it. There are also a few lovely shops in town. My favorite was Antiques on Talbot. I’d also recommend popping into American/Holiday, 1 O.A.K., and Come by Chance. There are also two ice cream shops in town! For coffee, visit Rise Up, which isn’t on the main drag in town but worth a visit as it’s a favorite of the region. If you’re with kids, definitely visit the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. We popped in and thought it was really well done.
These photos were taken on the evening of our Anniversary!
I kept saying to Edwin “We got it! We’re done shooting!” but the light was so stunning that Edwin was in the mood to snap away. For our anniversary, I wore this beautiful fall dress from Ulla Johnson. I love Ulla Johnson dresses so much. She’s always one of my go-to designers for special occasions. My dress is selling out quickly but I adore all her other fall dresses just as much! Take a look for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and general holiday parties. I slipped into my classic cap toe slingbacks and carried a purse Edwin got me for Christmas last year to round out my look. My shoes are so versatile and look so chic with wide leg jeans and a tee. My purse is sold out but I rounded up a few similar styles below.
In the grand scheme of life, two years is a blip.
However, these last two are two that I know I will never forget! The first year of marriage really is a dream. It goes by so quickly as it’s the newlywed year! Everything is new and fresh and exciting. Edwin and I didn’t live together before we got married so the first year of marriage brought so many exciting changes and really marked the first time we were truly making all of our decisions with another person in mind. In the second year of marriage, we were more settled into life.
Even though we’ve been together for nine years, we really grew in our relationship so much in our second year of marriage. We’ve been living through our house renovation and experiencing other life curveballs as a couple that have brought us together so much more than I expected for this year. Life has so many blessings and I know that one of my greatest blessings is Edwin. He brings me joy, laughter, comfort, security, and strength every single day. I can’t imagine God creating a better man than Edwin!
