Our Babymoon Getaway to Palmetto Bluff

Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina
filed under:

I can’t remember the last time I was as relaxed and rested as I was on our babymoon getaway to Palmetto Bluff. Edwin and I decided to stay close to home and wanted to go somewhere that didn’t require flying and long travel days so Palmetto Bluff was the perfect choice! For our babymoon with Rowan, we went the same route and picked a place that was driving distance from Charleston, which worked out beautifully, seamlessly, and comfortably (for my growingly uncomfortable body). We had been to Palmetto Bluff before in 2019 and have since talked about wanting to go back. This was the perfect opportunity!

My sister, a travel advisor, booked our stay and, because we used an advisor (they have a relationship with hotels etc.), when we checked in, we received a massive room upgrade from a standard hotel room to one of the nicest cottages on the property… thank you Sarah! It was such a treat and set the tone for a wonderful long weekend!

Our Babymoon Getaway to Palmetto Bluff

All I wanted from our babymoon was to get ample rest, spend undivided time with Edwin, and be somewhere beautiful to reflect on and celebrate our growing family. We spent the whole weekend either outside being active or relaxing and kicking our feet up doing things like playing gin rummy and needlepointing for me. Throughout the trip, we went on long bike rides, walked every single day, kayaked, and played tennis. We each did something we love independently too – I had a divine prenatal massage and Edwin golfed. We ate delicious meals and loved the nightly s’mores setup that Palmetto Bluff has. I will say that the service throughout the hotel was impeccable and I felt pampered the whole weekend, which is honestly exactly how you want to feel when you’re pregnant.

At dinner one night, we went through my list of fun questions to ask your significant other over a glass of wine from this post. On the drive home after the weekend, Edwin and I both said it was one of our favorite parts of the trip because it brought up so many happy memories, made us really excited for our future, and sparked some great conversation. Edwin and I have been together for 12 years now and it just keeps getting better with each passing year, trip, and experience. I feel immensely blessed and proud of the family we are creating.

Our babymoon leading up to Rowan’s birth was wondrous because it was a fantastic trip together but this babymoon for our second baby really was a break from the routines and schedules of parenthood and a welcome opportunity to rest and reconnect as a couple and not just as parents.

The babymoon also wouldn’t have happened without my parents who watched Rowan for the three nights. Rowan had a special weekend with his grandparents so it was a win, win for everyone. Thank you mom and dad for giving us the gift of a little break, for loving on Rowan so much, and for everything in-between!

This post is a bit of a scrapbook from our trip. My only regret is that we didn’t ask someone to take a proper photo of Edwin and I over the weekend. Thanks for indulging me with all the photos!

  1. Hi,

I just want to congratulate you! I had no idea you were expecting, what a wonderful time!

You may not remember me, but you were kind enough to respond to a few questions I had because were were considering relocating to Charleston from New York.

I hope all goes well, stay safe and healthy!
