Elevated White Tops

I have a whole little section in my closet devoted to elevated white tops because they are one of my most frequently worn wardrobe staples. Few things feel as fresh and clean to me as slipping on a pair of straight leg jeans or a fluttery skirt with a white top. My elevated white tops range from statement collar button-downs to frilly flowly blouses to scalloped edged eyelet tops. Some of the white tops in this section of my closet are more tailored than others. While some are more breezy than others. I gravitate toward so many different materials like crisp cotton poplin and gauzy linen. You name it, I have it. I can be daring with my style and love an appropriate time and place to do so. But, in my everyday life, I find that I can’t beat a fresh white top.

I just popped into J.Crew for the first time in what feels like forever and scooped up this puff sleeve cotton poplin top, which is what inspired this post. I wore it within 48 hours of buying it and love it! Spoiler alert, I’ve since worn it twice more including last night to get a glass of wine with my dad. The top is classic and simple but still has it all: a ruffled neckline, puff sleeves, and a bit of sweet smocking for a touch of fun. It will clearly be a closet MVP for me this spring and summer. Sometimes, you can’t beat the basics!

I’ve been having so much fun shooting what I’m wearing more in the last month or two as I really feel physically and emotionally like myself again since having Rowan last fall (I mean, I’ll never feel emotionally the same because Rowan took over my heart (!!!) but I no longer feel like I’m on a daily emotional rollercoaster). I had a few months there where taking photos felt like the last thing I wanted to do. And I feel like it showed on here and on my Instagram. It was a season of life and, for the most part, I listened to myself when it didn’t feel like the best thing for me or my time.

However, as I’m feeling back to myself, it feels fun again! Also, getting dressed is so much easier when you fit into the clothes in your closet. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money buying clothing that felt transitional between sizes after giving birth. So, now that I fit into my clothes, I can actually get dressed. I might go about this differently when we hopefully grow our family again but we shall see. Either way, simple and timeless basics like elevated white tops are perfect for every stage of life! I think one thing is for sure, I will buy a few more basics for my postpartum months the next go around. So I at least feel a bit more like myself in that area of life. This non-fitted top would work beautifully for that time of life. xx
