48 Hours at Whitehall in Camden, Maine

We were so fortunate to have the best midweek pick-me-up last week with a little two night trip up to Vacationland, aka Maine. We spent 48 hours at Whitehall in Camden, Maine exploring the little seaside town, discovering some of Maine’s gorgeous coastline, peeping the early fall foliage, and savoring the end of lobster season. Edwin and I first traveled to Maine in July 2015 on a datingmoon (aka what I called trips when we were dating… think honeymoon or babymoon but for couples who are dating and want to take a trip) and we instantly fell in love with the all-American state. We told each other that we knew we’d be back and here we are, a little more than three years later. My does time fly!

On our first trip, we spent a day in Portland and a day in Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor but we enjoyed the majority of our trip in Kennebunkport. This time around, we were in search of a new town to explore and Camden won out. We’re so happy because we loved the town, our charming hotel, and the entire trip! When researching what town to visit in Maine, we were equally as interested in the hotel as we were in what the town had to offer. It was such a quick trip so we knew we wanted to be comfortable and knew we wanted to love our home away from home for the two nights. I’d had Whitehall recommended to me by multiple friends (I first heard of it from Liz!) so I was eager to check it out! I loved the outdoor spaces on the property and the cozy but modern vibe of all the rooms so I booked us!

Whitehall is also part of Lark Hotels… a hotel group I always love (I’ve stayed at one of their two Nantucket properties, 76 Main, twice before)! Lark Hotels has a few other hotels sprinkled around Maine too. One is in Kennebunkport, which I mentioned was the first place in Maine we ever visited and was the town that made us fall in love with the state so I bet the hotel there is great!

We grabbed coffee and lite bites at Whitehall every morning before venturing out to explore Camden. Each evening, we layered up and enjoyed the cool, crisp fall air outside for a little shuffle board and cocktail hour by the fire. Pure bliss! Edwin and I have been spending so much time apart due to our conflicting work schedules so we really savored this downtime at the hotel.

In Camden, we loved wandering around the town and the surrounding neighborhoods.

We popped into three different bookstores including Owl and Turtle Bookshop Café (can you imagine… a town that still has three active book stores!?), visited the Sea Bags store, and poked our heads into a few different home and clothing stores. Our two favorite meals were at Long Grain and Waterfront (Natalie’s, Rhumb Line, and 40 Paper were also recommended to us but we didn’t have enough time to visit). A highlight for us was also exploring Camden Hills State Park. The park has the most stunning views that look over all of Camden and is filled with hiking trails (more on the park to come!). My parents were actually in Maine recently and they rented kayaks and cruised around the harbor and spent a whole day out on a sailboat called Anjacaa. We simply ran out of time!

My Outfit

For a full day of exploring, I went for a comfortable everyday outfit that anyone could wear all through fall and into winter (depending on where you live!). As soon as I saw the polka dots on this sweater, I knew I had to have it. It’s just too adorable! It’s also incredibly cozy… three cheers for sweater weather! I wore olive green cargo pants, which I find to be a fun and welcome change to jeans (they also come in navy and pink). I’ve been a loafers girl for as long as I can remember (more sizes here and here). Any loafers lover will tell you that G.S. Bass & Co. makes some of the best, comfortable, and affordable loafers out there. Plus, they come in some fun colors (more here)!

We also enjoyed some slow time back at our hotel reading and relaxing with tea/coffee. I loved to crack the widows and let in all the cool fall air. This cable knit cardigan kept me extra cozy the whole time! It’s so soft and snuggly that I could wear it all day long (p.s. it’s super cute worn out and about with jeans too).
